Australian artist Nike Savvas makes final adjustments to her art piece consisting of over 50,000 polystyrene balls at the New South Wales Art Gallery in Sydney August 3, 2006. The sculpture titled ‘Atomix – Full of Love, Full of Wonder’ , vibrates with wind from 10 fans and represents the different ’shimmering’ colours in a hot, outback landscape. It is part of a sculpture exhibition ‘Adventures with Form in Space‘ that will open to the public next week.
A room full of 50,000 floating, coloured balls arouses some odd responses in people. The spray-painted balls, attached to strings of fishing line, vibrate when wall-mounted fans are switched on, and took 10 days to install.

Savvas, 42, said she was partly inspired by the French artist George Seurat, who covered his canvas in tiny dots to create landscapes, but also admitted homesickness was an influence.

AshleyStar is one of my first friends since my arrival to SU. Her stumble picks are great, but she has a contribution of her own– Incredible photography. AS82 and her friend are outrageous talents. You all should take the time to examine her portfolio on Flickr. Very weary, claustrophobic, sly and charming like any early morning or rainy afternoon. Hung-over? No, human. It’s like a dry static-loaded sweater hug to look at them. She would be awesome to hang out at the flea market with. Thanks, Ashley.

Just Another Two Million Dollar House in Williamsburg

March 27, 2007: Just Another Two Million Dollar House in Williamsburg

I noticed this completely unstriking house across one of the lots on North 6th Street. It might not look like much, but remember: it’s all about location. Just two blocks from the L Train! Why, for $2m you’d practically be giving it away!

Misunderstanding of Introverts

without comments

preach.

clipped from www.theatlantic.com
Are introverts misunderstood? Wildly. That, it appears, is our lot in life. “It is very difficult for an extrovert to understand an introvert,” write the education experts Jill D. Burruss and Lisa Kaenzig. (They are also the source of the quotation in the previous paragraph.) Extroverts are easy for introverts to understand, because extroverts spend so much of their time working out who they are in voluble, and frequently inescapable, interaction with other people. They are as inscrutable as puppy dogs. But the street does not run both ways. Extroverts have little or no grasp of introversion. They assume that company, especially their own, is always welcome. They cannot imagine why someone would need to be alone; indeed, they often take umbrage at the suggestion. As often as I have tried to explain the matter to extroverts, I have never sensed that any of them really understood. They listen for a moment and then go back to barking and yipping.
